Best Tony Speech EVER!!!!!!!
"There's a line in Frost/Nixon which says, "Success in America is unlike success anywhere else. That feeling when you're up, it's indescribable." I'm very grateful to the theater community, to my colleagues in Frost/Nixon here and overseas and the New York theatergoing public for allowing me that feeling this season. The line in the play then goes on to say "But there's another feeling, when it's gone, to somewhere else, to someone else." And I know that feeling, everyone in this room knows it. I suppose we can't stop people from putting us into competition with one another, and once we're here, I suppose we all want to win, but I think we must honor the common bond in us, the struggle. The striving for success because that's a race we simply can't lose. I am very proud, very honored to work and live among you splendid people. Thank you. Thank you for giving me that indescribable feeling, I wish it for you all." —Frank Langella, Best Actor in a Play, Frost/Nixon

Some quotes I found about the theatre. I'm posting them here in order to share my love and passion for the theatre with all of you.
The theatre is the best way of showing the gap between what is said and what is seen to be done, and that is why, ragged and gap-toothed as it is, it has still a far healthier potential than some poorer, abandoned arts.
- David Hare
“The theater is so endlessly fascinating because it's so accidental. It's so much like life.”
-Arthur Miller
“The center of the stage is where I am.”
- Martha Graham
By whatever means it is accomplished, the prime business of a play is to arouse the passions of its audience
- Arthur Miller
I want to give the audience a hint of a scene. No more than that. Give them too much and they won't contribute anything themselves. Give them just a suggestion and you get them working with you. That's what gives the theater meaning: when it becomes a social act.
- Orson Wells
The stage is not merely the meeting place of all the arts, but is also the return of art to life.
- Oscar Wilde
Every now and then, when you're on stage, you hear the best sound a player can hear. It's a sound you can't get in movies or in television. It is the sound of a wonderful, deep silence that means you've hit them where they live.
- Shelly Winters
"theater is life, film is art, television is furniture."
-unknown
Too often actors think it's all about them, when in
reality it's all about the audience being able to
recognize themselves in you. The more you pull
away from the public, the less power you have on
screen.
- Ben Kingsley

Check out... http://www.sheilaomalley.com/archives/cat_theatre.html ... her writing is so insightful. My favorite post was when she described the four worst BOMBS (plays) that she has ever been in. It made me laugh so hard. I don't think I could experience anything worse than having some random guy get up in the middle a show and yell..."Who wrote this SHIT?" and then to proceed to make a lot of noise leaving the theatre, and have to continue on with the show as if nothing happened. Another favorite entry of mine was september 28 ~ Ibsen anyways, check it out.

Scenes
I have been writing scenes almost (key word being almost) every day now for the past couple of months for the SADC, and since others have had the guts to post their writings on their blogs I decided, who am I to deprive the (blogger) world of my twisted mind! I actually didn't write these scenes recently, I wrote them last year when I started developping a project. They are two different scenes with a common theme (hey, that rhymed) - the morning after! I find both hilarious and sad at the same time (but maybe that's just me - after all I wrote them). Anyways, hope you enjoy!! (and if you don't well - tough beansies).
FADE IN:
INT. LINDA’S BEDROOM. MORNING
CU. Of LINDA, 21 as she wakes up. She turns off the alarm.
Linda walks down the hall, stretching as she enters the bathroom. She turns on the water to take a shower.
Linda enters the kitchen and is startled by FRED, 35 who is in the midst of writing a note.

Sorry, didn’t mean to.

I didn’t want to just leave without saying anything.
LINDA
I see.
TED
I work early, so...
(beat)
LINDA
So umm, who are you?
TED
Oh right. Ummm, I’m Ted.
They AWKWARDLY shake hands. Linda is embarrassed by her attire (either a towel, or a bathrobe that does not leave much to the imagination).
LINDA
I didn’t realize -
TED
Oh, Oh, it’s ok -
LINDA
I’m...gonna...I’m gonna go.
TED
Nice meeting you...?
LINDA
Linda.
TED
Linda, right. I guess you’re Lena’s roommate then?
LINDA
Roommate? No. I’m her daughter.
TED
Oh.
LINDA
Don’t bother writing a note. She won’t even remember.
Oh, geeze. You scared me.

Sorry, didn’t mean to.
Fred sees Linda glance at the note.

Don’t bother writing a note. She won’t even remember.

Things I Like
I just saw an amazing film...Manderlay...by LARS VON TRIER It is part of a trilogy (that began with Dogville ((starring my favorite actress ~ Nicole Kidman ~)) and will end with the yet to be released Washington ). I have loved every film by Trier that I have seen (granted I've only seen 3 - but all three were awesome). If you haven't seen Dancer in the Dark, or the previously mentioned films...YOU SHOULD!!
A recent film that surprised me was Ellie Parker starring Naomi Watts. Considering the talent involved, I hadn't expected such a low-budget production. The entire movie was filmed with what looked like a home video camera and had the feel of a documentary - like you were getting a rare glimps into someone's actual life - in this case that of a struggling actress (the title character played by Watts) in L.A. I watched a behind the scenes extra on the dvd and I was even more amazed. They really did use a home video camera (or at least thats what it looked like) and there was no crew at all. Just the actors in the scene (Naomi, Chevy Chase, the secretary) and the director (who also had a role in the film).
After watching these two films, I feel really inspired (i've been using that word a lot lately :-P) to start working on my next film project. I'm still working on my last project - we're in the middle of editing, etc. but i'm really eager to start working on other things. I'm happy that Claudia started the SADC , because having that extra bit of encouragement to write has been very helpful for me. Maybe I'll post a scene or two in my blog sometime soon.

P.S. If you haven't heard of Invisible cinema (319 Lisgar, just off of Bank st.) I highly recommend it as THE video store to rent from if you don't like crap (or even if you do!!) And on Saturdays and Sundays all movies are 3 day rentals!!!

"Never, I repeat, never, under any conditions – face facts."
Lately it feels like i'm constantly being inspired...and I love it!! I went hiking in the Gatineau parks recently on a foggy Saturday morning, and it was absolutely amazing. The combination of the leaves changing colour, the smell, the fog...if you want to be inspired I recommend doing this 110% I was inspired again today in my acting class. We have been working on classical monologues and today was the first day that we actually performed part of them out in front of each other and gave/recieved feedback. Everyone did such a great job (I want to give a shout-out to G-ram - is that right? lol - I thought you did an especially marvelous job with yours. Keep up the good work!) aNd my second inspiration of the day was the song sitting, waiting, wishing by Jack Johnson. This song is amaz-z-ing, I had to keep playing it over and over again just so I could hold on to that feeling of being inspired. Anyways, Now that I've shared what's inspired me, I want to know what inspires other people! and in response to the lovely comment posted by my close friend S&M (:-P yes, those are her actual initials) I will post another picture (hint: it is the small photo in the top left corner lol). This one was taken by my good friend K (who is an aspiring fashion photographer btw). It was taken by the Fountain at Confederation park. I think I look like a little french peasant girl, no? Well it doesn't matter what you think :-P j/kCxoxo

SurE ThinGThis photo was taken during my last year of high school. I love, love this photo because it is the costume I chose to wear for a short play called "Sure Thing" by David Ives. Well, I ended up wearing a different outfit for the actual performance, because the other actress ended up wearing an outfit very similar to mine (you know who you are :-P) so I had to wear something different. So now this character can be forever immortalized in my blog! So there!
